2022 In Review

It is hard to believe that 2022 is coming to a close. After a few challenging years, this last one seemed far more normal than the two preceding it. Thankfully for Blach Construction we experienced a year of growth and appreciation. Safety and the well-being of our employees remained a top priority and we were honored to have our efforts once again recognized among our peers through the Associated General Contractors of California. Likewise, as our team expanded, we were able to promote several well-deserving and dedicated employees into new roles, while also welcoming vibrant new talent.

On the building front, our portfolio continued to diversify with interesting and gratifying projects. This wide range includes community-impactful structures like the Millbrae Recreation Center and Tanforan Memorial Plaza; a first-of-its-kind, innovative learning institution, the MUSD Innovation Campus; ongoing workplace renovation for a well-known Silicon Valley-based tech firm, as well as several education and housing projects of varying scope and scale.

In the Bay Area, where the housing crisis looms, it has been especially fulfilling to be involved in so many projects that, by mid-2023, will provide shelter of differing types. Specifically, these include Immanuel-Sobrato Community supportive housing, The Rollins affordable housing, where several units are earmarked for Veterans, and multi-family, market-rate units at our largest project to date, the Gateway at Millbrae Station transit-oriented development.

While rewarding, it has not been an easy year by any means. We still find ourselves navigating escalation and shortages of both materials and skilled labor. Even so, we applaud our teams and trade partners who continue to identify and overcome these issues, leveraging innovative building techniques and materials to stay the course and deliver high value, quality projects to our clients.

Additionally, and most importantly, we are keenly aware that others, both within and outside of our industry, have not had as favorable a year. Many people have been adversely affected by illness, inflation, layoffs and more. Our hearts go out to everyone impacted and as service-minded builders, we will continue to assist those in need by supporting various local causes monetarily and with our time and service.

In reflecting upon 2022 overall, we count ourselves incredibly fortunate and want to express our most heartfelt gratitude to our colleagues, partners and clients for their ongoing support to our continued and collective success. And as we head into what will hopefully be a bright, healthy New Year, we at Blach Construction wish everyone, everywhere all good things.
