"For this $22 million project, Blach will utilize a state-of-the-art, panelized structural system to build the classroom building"
Santa Clara, Calif. – (June 20, 2014) – Blach Construction Company, a commercial building contractor and construction manager serving Northern California and the Central Coast, was recently selected to general contracting services for multiple projects at the San Carlos School District.
Due to a heavy influx of students, the San Carlos School District is in the process of converting its current K-4 and grades 5-8 schools into three levels: K-3 schools, bridge schools for grades 4-5, and schools for grades 6-8. The District has hired Blach to construct a new 44,000 square foot, two-story classroom building at Central Middle School.
For this $22 million project, Blach will utilize a state-of-the-art, panelized structural system to build the classroom building, in which 10 x 30 foot steel panels will be custom made and prefabricated under shop conditions and transported to the site when needed. This system, developed jointly by Blach Construction and Quattrocchi Kwok Architects, will improve efficiency of installation resulting in savings both in terms of time and cost.
“We are thrilled about this opportunity to continue our partnership with the San Carlos School District and very much look forward to helping enhance learning environments for the District’s students,” said Paul Kehoe, Project Executive for Blach Construction.
Recently, Blach was also approved by the San Carlos Board of Education to move forward with Phase 2 of its program, construction of the Arroyo Bridge School. The new school, located at the existing Central campus, will be configured for 4-5 grades following the completion of Central Middle School. The Arroyo Bridge School project, valued at $10 million, includes demolition of existing structures, a new classroom building, new administration building, two new learning commons and rework of the existing play fields.
