"At Blach, safety is not only a priority, it is a strategic initiative that has been deeply engrained in our culture since our founding.”
“Anyone working on or affected by a Blach project can always be assured they are as safe as possible."
San Jose, Calif., March 23, 2021 – Blach Construction (Blach), an award-winning full-service commercial builder serving the Greater Bay Area and Monterey since 1970, has placed first in the Associated General Contractors of California (AGC CA) 2020 Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA). Recognized in the Building Division (under 400,000 worker hours), the company is honored to once again have its safety program acknowledged by California’s largest industry advocate. In prior, consecutive years, Blach was awarded second (2019) and third (2018) place in the program’s same category.
“We applaud AGC CA for consistently holding our industry to the highest standards in this area and are honored to be recognized among our peers. At Blach, safety is not only a priority, it is a strategic initiative that has been deeply engrained in our culture since our founding,” said Blach President Dan Rogers. “Reflecting upon the last few years, including the heightened challenges everyone has faced during the pandemic, we are proud of the safety record Blach has built throughout our 50-plus years in operation and we are firmly committed to always putting people first.”
In its 33rd year, the 2020 AGC CA CSEA program recognized leading teams across California’s construction industry who excelled in creating safe workplaces during calendar year 2019 (pre-pandemic). Each year, honorees are judged along a set of criteria that go beyond statistics to include an organization’s demonstration of innovation, teamwork and passion for continuously improving its safety program and culture. Leading the way in the industry, Blach’s detailed safety program includes two dedicated in-house Safety Managers. Along with individual project teams, they are responsible for ongoing site-specific training, assessing concerns and possible solutions during all phases of construction, as well as gathering and integrating feedback from employees. Blach leverages state-of-the-art technology and building techniques to promote safety. This includes employing prefabrication when appropriate to minimize disruption and maximize safety on all of its active job sites. To this end, the company developed its own innovative building solution, Folia, which is becoming more widely embraced and seeing continued success.
“Anyone working on or affected by a Blach project can always be assured they are as safe as possible. This is especially important because the majority of work we perform takes place on active and occupied sites,” said Keith Craw, vice president of operations at Blach. “Our seasoned Safety Team regularly and meticulously examines our processes, implementing new procedures and technology that continue to heighten our exacting benchmarks, as well as their efficacy. As a result, our teams maintain a laser focus on efficiently exceeding client needs while mitigating disruption, safety concerns and any other challenges that might arise.”
