San Francisco, California – December 21, 2016 – KQED’s board of directors this week elected Mike Blach, president and CEO of Blach Construction, to its board, starting January 1, 2017. Three other board nominees also were elected: Anne Avis, a former KQED board chairwoman and the current chair of the Campaign 21 cabinet; Mallun Yen, executive vice president of RPX Corporation and former vice president and general counsel of Cisco Systems; and Jaime Studley, a national policy advisor of Beyond 12 and former official in the US Department of Education and associate dean of the Yale Law School.

Blach is no stranger to serving on non-profit boards. He just finished a six-year term on the board of Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, including the last year as board president. He also served full terms on the Rotary Club of San Jose’s club and foundation boards, where he was club president in 2012-2013. He also served six years as a board member and board president of Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose and six years as a trustee of the Silicon Valley Children’s Fund. Blach also serves as a regent at his alma mater, Santa Clara University.
During the past 15 years, Blach co-founded two charitable foundations as well. The Blach Family Foundation, which grants scholarships to underserved students in the San Jose area and the Blach Construction Foundation, which supports a wide variety of charities and scholarships.
